By Your Side is a song I wrote in 1994 when I fell in love with a French guy called Stéphane. Sadly, he had to leave before we really had the chance to get together. I had always intended a 2nd voice in the chorus and asked Nathan Peter Illes whether he wanted to sing it. I've always loved his songs and was really happy when he agreed to do them. While working on the song with Nathan I had the idea this could be a duet. There is however also an unplugged version out which I recorded live with just one mic.
By Your Side est une chanson que j'ai écrite en 1994 quand j'étais amoureuse d'un Français qui s'appellait Stéphane. Hélas, il a du partir avant on pouvait être en couple. J'ai toujours eu l'intention de mettre une 2ième voix dans le refrain et du coup j'ai demandé à Nathan Peter Illes s'il voulait la chanter. J'ai toujours aimé ses chansons et j'étais ravie qu'il était d'accord. En travaillant sur la chanson avec Nathan j'ai eu l'idée qu'elle pourrait être chantée en duo. Il y a aussi une autre version unplugged que j'ai enrégistrée avec un seul microphone.
By Your Side habe ich 1994 geschrieben als ich mich in einen Franzosen namens Stéphane verliebt hatte. Leider musste er zurück nach Frankreich bevor wir die Chance hatten, zusammenzukommen. Ich hatte immer eine zweite Stimme im Refrain vorgesehen und habe Nathan Peter Illes gefragt, ob er sie singen würde. Ich fand seine Musik schon immer toll und habe mich total gefreut als er zugestimmt hat. Während wir an dem Lied gearbeitet haben, hatte ich die Idee, dass wir dieses Lied auch als Duett aufnehmen könnten. Es gibt aber auch eine Unplugged Version, die ich mit live mit einem Mikrofon eingespielt habe.
