Un livre et un café

(A book and a coffee)

(Translation see below)

© Music and Lyrics by Annika Jayne

Assise dans un jardin
I don't need much
Le soleil m'étreint
I'm feeling its soft touch

Là entre les fleurs
The sunlight kisses me
J'y retrouve mon coeur
What more could I need

Car j'ai un livre et un café
C'est tout ce dont j'ai besoin pour voyager
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Les mots déploient leur magie
J'oublie tous mes soucis
Loin d'ici

Sentant les pages entre mes doigts
I feel pure bliss
Je me perds dans les histoires
I'm in my happy place

L'air sent l'été
And there are butterflies
Près des azalées
I sit here with sparkling eyes

Car j'ai un livre et un café
C'est tout ce dont j'ai besoin pour voyager
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Les mots déploient leur magie
J'oublie tous mes soucis
Loin d'ici

Et j'ai un livre et un café
C'est tout ce dont j'ai besoin pour voyager
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Loin d'ici
Les mots déploient leur magie
J'oublie tous mes soucis
Loin d'ici

English translation:

Sitting in a garden
I don't need much
The sun embraces me
I'm feeling its soft touch

There between the flowers
The sunlight kisses me
I find my heart there
What more could I need

Because I have a book and a coffee
That's all I need to travel
Far from here
Far from here
Far from here
Words unfold their magic
I forget all my worries
Far from here

Feeling the pages between my fingers
I feel pure bliss
I get lost in the stories
I'm in my happy place

The air smells like summer
And there are butterflies
Near the azaleas
I sit here with sparkling eyes

Because I have a book and a coffee
That's all I need to travel
Far from here
Far from here
Far from here
Words unfold their magic
I forget all my worries
Far from here

And I have a book and a coffee
That's all I need to travel
Far from here
Far from here
Far from here
Words unfold their magic
I forget all my worries
Far from here

This is the first single of the Cats & Coffee Cups album!

There are two versions of the song - they're both acoustic with just voice and guitar, so the difference is minimal.

On the A-side, you'll find the version mixed and mastered by Nathan Illes, and on the B-side, you'll find the re-recorded version mixed and mastered by Brady Jo.

The first is the version you may have heard on radio stations such as New Music Saturday, Radio TFSC, or Radio Wigwam. This is why it's called the Radio Edit.

The second version is the one that will appear on the album, hence it's the album version.

The idea for this song came to me in the summer of 2020 while I was sitting in a beautiful garden with nothing more but a book and a coffee. However, I only finished writing it in March 2022.

While the original idea for the song came to me in French, I spontaneously mixed English and French while writing the lyrics of the verses. Since most of the books I am reading are either in English or French, it makes perfect sense, though!
