Thinking Of You

I'm going through life, through my daily chores
So much to do, no time for a pause
Somebody's playing You've Got A Friend
Out of the blue, makes me smile to no end

Cause I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of you
In moments like these

Alors je pense à toi
Je pense à toi
Je pense à toi
And of all our memories

When doing the dishes, bubbles are everywhere
And all my wishes for you are in the air
When wearing the necklace with the guitar
The one you gave me, it's my lucky charm

Then I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of you
In moments like these

Dann denk ich an dich
Dann denk ich an dich
Dann denk ich an dich
And of all our memories

Weißt Du noch wie albern wir waren
Everywhere we went, we'd laugh until dawn
On chantait ensemble, à Berlin, à Paris
Und seh ich La Tour Eiffel, den Fernsehturm
Then you're in my heart instantly

Then I'm thinking of you
Je pense à toi
Dann denk ich an dich
In moments like these

Dann denk ick an dir
Dann denk ick an dir
Dann denk ick an dir
And of all our memories

Thinking of you Translation

Well, basically in the chorus, the phrase "thinking of you" is translated into either French or German.

Bridge:

Do you remember how silly we were
Everywhere we went we'd laugh until dawn
We sang together in Berlin, in Paris
And when I see the Eiffel Tower, the Berlin TV tower
Then you're in my heart instantly

The idea for this song came to me quite spontaneously just before the Album Writing Club started in May. I heard the chorus in my head exactly as it is now. As is so often the case, the song found me. Of course, I knew exactly who I was thinking of - my best friend and chosen sister Dany, who now lives in Boston. But we both grew up in Berlin. You might be wondering what the bubbles in the second verse are about - it's a secret reference to another song I wrote for her called "Seifenblasen" (Bubbles). It's a German song that hasn't been released yet, but in that song I imagine blowing bubbles that stay whole instead of bursting and flying all the way to Boston carrying all my wishes to her. So now when I see bubbles, even if it's just doing the dishes, I think of Dany. She's actually French-German - and lives in an English-speaking country - so we're both language nerds. So this song had to be in three languages! And even our Berlin dialect found its way into the song in the last chorus!
